Improving IVF success with advanced PGS | Illumina Video

As women postpone starting families, IVF has become a critical, yet costly reproductive tool. Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) has doubled over the past decade, accounting for over 1% of all US babies. IVF accounts for more than 99% of all ART procedures. Women may require several IVF cycles to achieve success —at an average cost of $12,400 per IVF cycle in the US. Less than 1/3 of ART-related cycles* resulted in live births in 2012 and nearly half (44.9%) of in vitro embryos have aneuploidies—and aneuploidy rates increase with maternal age from approximately 30% at maternal age under 35 to approximately 85% at maternal age over 42. Data suggests that preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) significantly increases rate of successful pregnancy and reduces the likelihood of multiple births with single embryo transfers.
