| 要旨 | Short-read sequencing (SRS) has transformed human genome analysis, yet tandem repeats, low-uniqueness regions, and complex structural variants (SVs) remain difficult to resolve. In these areas, long-read sequencing (LRS) has traditionally held the advantage. Illumina has long dominated SRS, but long-range genomic analysis has remained a major challenge. In 2026, Illumina (re)entered this arena with TruPath, a new approach that uses existing NovaSeq instruments while reconstructing short-read data into long-range haplotype information. In other words, Illumina is now taking the fight to LRS on its own territory. TruPath aims to combine long-range phasing and improved access to difficult genomic regions with Illumina’s strengths in throughput and cost efficiency. In this luncheon seminar, I will present our early hands-on experience with TruPath and direct comparisons with multiple sequencing platforms, focusing on difficult genomic regions, SV detection, genome-wide phasing, and clinically relevant disease-causing variants. So, does Illumina dream of long reads? If Illumina can match the genome-variant detection sensitivity of existing LRS technologies while delivering it at substantially lower cost, it may not simply enter the long-read race—it may rewrite the rules. |

| 企業講演 要旨 | Illumina offers a full range of sequencers—from compact to large-scale models—equipped with the latest technologies, such as XLEAP-SBS™ reagents and DRAGEN™. A wide range of multi-omics applications are being developed for these state-of-the-art sequencers. Already on the market and receiving positive feedback are Illumina Single Cell Prep, a single-cell solution with low upfront costs; the Illumina 5-base solution, which enables simultaneous genome and methylation analysis using a new enzyme that converts methylated cytosine to thymine; SomaSeq Discovery, which enables highly reproducible protein analysis using aptamers; and TruPath Genome, which enables long-range WGS analysis without the hassle of library preparation—a product that Dr. Miya will introduce. StrataMap Spatial, a new spatial expression analysis technology, was added to this product lineup in September. We will introduce Illumina’s latest multiomics platform, which goes beyond sequencing, including the integrated analysis software Illumina Connected Multiomics (ICM). |
